OneRoof Energy® Joins San Bernardino Officials for Opening of Local Transitional Housing Program for Homeless Veterans
Company Provides Solar Energy to Largest Veteran Transitional Housing Program in Inland Empire
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif., March 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- OneRoof Energy, Inc., a complete solar services provider, today joined Empower America Coalition, Turrill Transitional and other San Bernardino business and elected officials to commemorate the opening of The McMillen House, the largest of its kind transitional housing program for military veterans in the Inland Empire. OneRoof Energy donated a 4.8kW Avancis solar system to the facility, in an effort to provide clean, affordable energy to local homeless veterans. This solar system will save the program an approximated $1,200 on monthly utility expenses, and nearly $50,000 over the course of the system's lifetime.
With more than 600 homeless veterans recorded in the Inland Empire, the opening of The McMillen House aims to curb homelessness by providing medical, legal and educational resources to foster smooth transition into civilian life.
"OneRoof Energy is committed to supporting our nation's military service men and women by partnering with organizations to improve veteran rehabilitation and transition," said OneRoof Energy CEO David Field. "By providing affordable solar solutions to veteran programs, and by continuing to offer employment to these former military members, we are able to give back to a deserved group that strongly supports the solar industry's success."
According to a recent report issued by The Solar Foundation, more than 13,000 U.S. veterans are employed in the solar industry, accounting for more than nine percent of all solar workers in the nation.
The McMillen House, backed by a Veterans Administration grant at no cost to local taxpayers, will serve 21 homeless veterans for up to two years. Today's grand opening event featured Congressional members, elected officials and military dignitaries. Alongside these officials, numerous local businesses such as unions, retailers, construction companies and financial service institutions, showed their community support by sponsoring the transitional housing program.
