Online Consulting Firm Helps Employers Uncover Workers' Strengths for a More Engaged, Productive Workforce
SEATTLE, May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- A recent study revealed that job satisfaction across the U.S. has fallen to its lowest level in two decades. According to business consultant Patrick Adkisson, there is a direct correlation between employee engagement and job satisfaction.
Not only are engaged employees more satisfied with their jobs, they are more productive, said Adkisson. "Everybody in human resources – Gallup, Marcus Buckingham, Tom Peters – is talking about the 'strengths movement,'" he said.
Linda Barrington, managing director of human capital at the Conference Board, said workers "have to figure out what they should be doing to be the most engaged in their jobs and the most productive."
Employers that help workers discover their strengths, said Adkisson, and use that insight to build more productive teams, have a powerful tool to build job satisfaction and reverse the trend. Adkisson's Business Logic virtual consulting firm works with employers to build strong, engaged individuals and teams. Business Logic uses Team Management System (TMS) profiles to uncover an individual's work strengths, then facilitates an online team workshop that reinforces the principles of TMS within the team. TMS was an outgrowth of research conducted in the 1980s by Drs. Chris Margerison and Dick McCann on what teams did to reach their performance goals.
These facilitator-led workshops:
- Create a common language for team members to communicate with each other
- Bring transparency to individual work preferences
- Unite virtual teams or geographically dispersed teams
Adkisson noted that the workshops include interactive online quizzes that keep participants on their toes. Workshop recordings are available online for one year. A self-paced online learning option is available to new team members. He said this keeps all team members aware of everyone's strengths even as the team changes.
"Teams are dynamic," said Adkisson. "They are constantly changing. Sometimes they are geographically dispersed. Teams need to have a common language which becomes a part of their DNA so as teams evolve and change the new team can, without interruption, begin to take advantage of the diversity of their strengths."
Business Logic provides ongoing support with an online learning website, TMSTools.com. The site features:
- Interactive tools
- Narrated self-paced modules
- Dynamic team graphs
- A Learning Log to document personal perspectives
Adkisson noted that the TMS profile measures preferences, not performance. The profile highlights eight types of workers, and where each worker fits. Adkisson said the profile can be used in various areas of a business, from recruitment to performance reviews. "Our goal is to help employers find the right mix of people to form a well-rounded team," he said.
