More than 240 students are expected to graduate in the California Virtual Academy@ Los Angeles class of 2015. At graduation, many of the students will be meeting each other for the first time outside of their virtual classrooms.
Graduates will attend universities and colleges across the country and state including Thomas Edison State College, California State University Northridge, Azusa Pacific University, Gnomon School of Visual Effects, Art Institute of Los Angeles, UCLA, Mount St. Mary's University, Le Cordon Bleu, Boston University and The New York Film Academy.
"We're proud to recognize the hard work and accomplishments of each of our graduates," said Katrina Abston, Senior Head of Schools for California Virtual Academies, the network of 11 different charter schools. "These ceremonies not only celebrate their achievements, but the encouragement and support of their families and teachers that helped them reach this milestone. Education is evolving from the one-size-fits-all approach. Online public schools can be the right path to graduation, careers and college for students whose needs were not being met by traditional education models."
Sade Champagne, performer and music artist who travels the U.S. inspiring with youth, will be the keynote speaker. She will talk about how she overcame her own challenges and will encourage graduates to believe in themselves.
Students worked toward graduation through the award-winning K12 curriculum that includes an innovative digital learning platform, interactive online science labs, extensive AP and honors courses, and live sessions in virtual classrooms. California-credentialed teachers work with each student to create an individualized learning plan that focuses on his or her unique learning needs, goals, and interests.
