Online Storytelling Website, SecretTalk.com, Lets Users Share Their Personal Stories in Safe, Anonymous Setting
SAN JOSE, Calif., June 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Is a secret or problem weighing you down? Do you need a way to confide in someone without hurting or alienating friends or family? SecretTalk.com (http://www.secrettalk.com), a personal storytelling website, provides people with a safe forum for airing grievances anonymously and obtaining advice on issues that they are either unable to or uncomfortable with sharing with anyone they know.
SecretTalk.com was created in 2007, but its creator did not realize the impact that the site was having on others' lives until he began receiving messages from users some years later. It turned out that many people were profoundly grateful to be able to use the site as a safe haven to unburden. In several cases, users felt that the website was the only thing that had kept them going.
In 2010, an anonymous user wrote, "Thank you … you have saved me from slipping into a deep depression … you people are like my best friends I can talk to you about anything and when I need it you guys put me in my place so thank you my fellow secrettalkers :)."
Users can post their story under a personalized "username" or remain completely anonymous. Once a story is posted, other users can also use the comments section provided beneath the story to share feedback, advice or insights.
Each user is assigned a reputation score that represents the accumulation of points resulting from other users clicking the "Like" button beneath a story or comment. The reputation score reflects positive feedback such as the level of trust that other users have placed in that individual and their appreciation of his or her postings. When a user's story or comment receives a Like, that user gains a reputation point. A user can earn a daily maximum of 30 reputation points and can cast a maximum of 40 Likes each day.
In order to give users an even more positive experience, SecretTalk.com has been upgraded regularly, even being redesigned in March 2013. The website currently has more than 80,000 stories, which so far, have garnered more than 350,000 suggestions and statements of support from users.
SecretTalk.com is moderated so that posts or comments that violate community rules are deleted. Account registration is required to discourage spammers from bothering users with sales messages and to facilitate detection and removal of the spam messages that do show up. Registration also gives each user the ability to manage their own story since having their messages tied to an account allows them to easily edit or delete their posts or comments without anyone else interfering with their text.
Privacy is the top priority for SecretTalk.com and since it is a legal California registered company, users' privacy is guaranteed. For more information, visit http://www.secrettalk.com.
