NEW YORK, Sept. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- McPheters & Company has announced a new program to provide iMonitor Certification to apps that are free of malfunctions and that fall in the top quintile of app performance based on its rigorous evaluation system.
Since April of 2010, iMonitor™ has been conducting global tracking and assessment of publication and news-related apps from around the world. The service provides subscribers with regular briefings on trends and best practices, as well as 24/7 access to its extensive database – which includes detailed qualitative assessments and more than 100 metrics on each app, including information on business models, pricing and platforms utilized. To date, iMonitor has assessed almost 3000 apps – most more than once. Subscribers include ad agencies, as well as major publishing companies in the U.S. and abroad.
App quality is highly variable. About 40% of apps have significant malfunctions which can include download issues, spontaneous crashes, links that fail or audio/video content that does not play or turn off properly. Both advertisers and consumers need a way to avoid apps that are unlikely to live up to expectations. iMonitor Certification allows publishers to receive a thorough assessment of each individual app and – if the app qualifies – use the Certification logo to document app quality to these important constituencies. iMonitor Certified Apps are also awarded stars based on their performance using the iMonitor rating system.
Qualifying apps produced by iMonitor subscribers will automatically be included in the certification program. Other participants must submit apps for certification. They will receive a detailed report on how their app performs against the evaluative criteria and, if it earns certification, the publisher has the right to use the iMonitor Certified symbol for a 12-month period to promote the app to consumers and advertisers. Since iMonitor re-evaluates apps with each update, if an app no longer is deserving of its certification – or is entitled to a higher rating – the publisher will be notified. If the app no longer qualifies, the publisher will have 30 days to correct the problem or its certification will be withdrawn and the publisher will be required to withdraw any materials in which the iMonitor certification logo appears. A publicly accessible database of iMonitor Certified Apps is being maintained at www.iMonitorCertified.com.
