Ophthalmology Chairman Appointed At New York Eye And Ear Infirmary

Paul A. Sidoti, MD, to Lead Department at One of Nation's Foremost Specialty Eye Care Facilities

VALHALLA, N.Y., May 13, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- New York Medical College and The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary have appointed Paul A. Sidoti, M.D., as chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary (NYEEI), an affiliate of New York Medical College in New York City.

Dr. Sidoti, who is also Professor of Ophthalmology at New York Medical College, had been NYEEI Ophthalmology Residency Program Director for the past seven years, as well as director of the Comprehensive Ophthalmology Service (Outpatient Eye Department) at NYEEI.

An attending physician in the faculty practice, he was named a Surgeon Director in 2007 at NYEEI. Dr. Sidoti specializes in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma, with particular areas of interest and expertise in the management of co-existing glaucoma and corneal disease, aqueous shunt surgery, and Trabectome surgery, a minimally invasive glaucoma surgical procedure.

Dr. Sidoti is a graduate of Princeton University and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.  He completed an internship in internal medicine at The New York Hospital/Cornell University Medical Center and residency in ophthalmology at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.  He did a postgraduate fellowship in glaucoma at the Doheny Eye Institute/University of Southern California, where he was also clinical instructor of ophthalmology in the School of Medicine.

After his fellowship, Dr. Sidoti returned to The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary as Medical Director of the Outpatient Clinics, and proceeded to assume increasing responsibilities in the academic program, in the faculty practice, and as a researcher.

Dr. Sidoti has received professional recognition with the American Academy of Ophthalmology Achievement Award, Glaucoma Foundation Medical Service Award, and NYEEI Residents' Award for Outstanding Teaching and Dedicated Service. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at major medical conferences.  He has been a principle investigator in clinical trials involving techniques of glaucoma surgery and imaging studies to advance diagnosis of the disease at ever earlier and more treatable stages.
