OptiCare Managed Vision Mobilizes Eye Care For Underserved Communities Across The Country
-- Mobile Vision Tour Kicks off at Health Fair in Rocky Mount, North Carolina --
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C., May 15, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- OptiCare Managed Vision is bringing access to eye exams and health information to underserved communities throughout the country. OptiCare's mobile vision van, called "SeeMore," kicks off a six-month national tour during Healthy Vision Month in OptiCare's hometown of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, on May 16.
According to the World Health Organization, 80% of all visual impairment can be prevented or cured. OptiCare strives to provide education and quality, preventive eye care, yet recognizes that many people do not have access to good care. The "SeeMore" vision van delivers eye exams to people lacking access and promotes the importance of eye care. Eye care providers accompanying the van perform vision screenings, exams, and fundus photography.
"OptiCare aims to transform the health of the communities we serve, one person at a time," said David Lavely, president and CEO of OptiCare. "Proper vision care is very important to the whole health of the individuals we serve. Our mobile vision van will bring these services directly to people who might not otherwise have access to quality healthcare."
The "SeeMore" Mobile Vision Van includes:
- Complete exams
- Mobile auto-refractors to assess sharpness of vision and need for corrective lenses
- EyePACS fundus camera to screen for diabetic retinopathy
- Screenings for and distribution of free reading glasses
- Prescription glasses shipped after the event to those who need them
- Prescriptions to obtain eyeglasses
The vision van will be at Golden East Crossing Mall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will also include free blood pressure, HIV and STD screenings, as well as a Farmer's Market, massage chairs and special give-aways for attendees.
The "SeeMore" van will make its next stop at the North Carolina Urban League for its annual Young Professionals Health Fair in Charlotte, North Carolina, on May 30. The van will then spend six months on tour visiting underserved communities throughout the country.
