Optimal IdM Announces Support for SharePoint 2010 Enabling Claims-Based Authorization Through Its Virtual Identity Server

LAND O'LAKES, Fla., April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Optimal IdM, LLC, a premier Microsoft ISV and Identity & Access (IDA) partner, today announced formal support for Microsoft's soon to be released SharePoint 2010, with a new version of its Virtual Identity Server for SharePoint product (VIS for SharePoint).  The new version of VIS for SharePoint builds on its existing integration and now fully supports the SharePoint 2010 claims-based model.  

VIS for SharePoint enables organizations to rapidly and easily deploy SharePoint across multiple forests without the need for trusts. It also provides customers with full Office integration and an increase in security and control for SharePoint. The new release of VIS for SharePoint also offers claims-based authentications and authorizations through Optimal IdM's Virtual Identity Server virtual directory.

Using VIS for SharePoint, claims can now be dynamic in nature. Claims are allowed to be defined by user attributes that exist in multiple data stores, such as other LDAP directories or even databases. This dynamic attribute-based access control is not possible out-of-the-box with Windows Identity Foundation or SharePoint alone. This enables the permissions in SharePoint to change automatically as the data changes on the user objects; significantly reducing the administration of SharePoint.

Microsoft is expected to officially launch SharePoint 2010 on May 12, 2010, with the RTM (Release to Manufacturing) scheduled in April 2010.
