BOCA RATON, Fla., March 11, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- To live a healthier, longer and more active life.
That's something Orangetheory Fitness has in common with the American Heart Association, whose mission is to be a relentless force for a world of longer, heathier lives. It also serves as the impetus for the fitness brand's involvement in awareness and fund-raising efforts during American Heart Month in February.
At its studios across the U.S., Orangetheory Fitness members and staff joined the fight against cardiovascular disease and stroke by participating in the American Heart Association's Life Is Why We Give™ campaign to fund life-saving research, provide resources to help people reduce risk for cardiovascular diseases and stroke, and advocate for policies to improve health outcomes.
"The heart is the only muscle that gives you more life. That's why we think it is so important to connect your heart to your workout at Orangetheory Fitness," said Dave Long, Orangetheory Fitness co-founder and CEO. "I am proud of our efforts to support the American Heart Association through its Life is Why We Give campaign to promote heart health, as we share the same commitment to encouraging healthier lives for everyone."
Orangetheory Fitness worked together with the American Heart Association to drive home the message of improving the quality of life through exercise and to provide educational information to members regarding heart health, stroke prevention and symptoms. Orangetheory Fitness held fund-raising initiatives, including a class in which all proceeds went to the American Heart Association, and raised more than $120,000. The fitness brand also took to social media to showcase video profiles of Orangetheory Fitness members who have used its fitness program to help overcome heart disease.
"The ability to connect Orangetheory Fitness members with the American Heart Association's collective efforts to help everyone live longer healthier lives makes an impact far beyond the critical dollars raised," said James Postl, the Association's Chairman of the Board. "We hope Orangetheory members will continued to be inspired by the stories shared throughout this partnership and for all of the heart healthy transformations yet to come."
The American Heart Association recommends that adults get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity per week – or a combination of the two. That recommendation can be met by participating in an Orangetheory class, taught by highly-trained coaches. The hour-long, heart-rate tracked, technology-backed, full-body workout helps members elevate their heart rate to the "Orange Zone," which is 84-91 percent of their maximum heart rate.
Renowned physiologist and Orangetheory Fitness co-founder Ellen Latham designed the company's fitness regimen based on the physiological theory of excess post-exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC), which enables members to raise their heart rate and burn more calories for up to 36 hours afterwards. Embraced by millions of members throughout the world, the workout blends a unique trifecta of science, coaching and technology to generate more energy, more drive and more health.
Each Orangetheory studio has treadmills, water rowing machines, mini bands and TRX® suspension unit systems and plenty of free weights and benches. Coaches conduct personalized group sessions for 10 to 25 people at a time, an approach complemented by such technology advancements as a new wearable heart-rate monitor and proprietary equipment enhancements. Through its game-changing technology, Orangetheory advances its brand mission by giving members even better tools to capture performance data, measure their overall workout results and set new goals.

About Life Is Why We Give™
We all deserve to live a long, healthy and happy life. However, heart disease and stroke are robbing too many of us of this chance. The American Heart Association is working to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to have a quality of life that they can spend more joyfully with family and friends. When people donate or purchase goods and services from our Life is Why We Give cause supporters, we move closer to creating the quality of life we all desire. Life Is Why We Give aims to inspire consumers to think about their reasons to live healthier, longer lives and to give to AHA for those reasons. For too long, heart disease and stroke have stolen our precious moments. It's time we fight back together and affirm that we're more powerful than these diseases… because everyone has a reason to live a longer, healthier life… and that reason is why we give.
