MIAMI, April 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Orchid Recovery Center, a women-only drug and alcohol rehab facility in South Florida, provides holistic healing for women dealing with drug and alcohol addictions in order to strengthen a woman's body, mind and spirit. Based on the belief that women have different physical, emotional and psychological needs to overcome addiction, Orchid was founded to meet the unique needs of women that were not being addressed by the recovery community.

The organization centers on the belief that addiction and substance abuse in women has a cause, a progress and a societal perception different from men. Women addicts often have more guilt, shame and other mental health issues when compared to men. They are also less likely to seek treatment because of the social stigma and guilt associated with identifying as an addict.
In addition, early untreated trauma plays a significant role in a woman's addiction and treatment progress. Past or current physical, emotional, verbal or sexual abuse affects a woman's self-esteem, emotional well-being or ability to cope and can lead to unhealthy choices and chemical dependency chronic relapses.
"The Orchid's treatment programs help guide women through a journey of growth and healing specifically tailored for each individual," says Peter A. Harrigan, CEO of the Orchid Recovery Center. "Women seeking treatment at Orchid find new and progressive ways to overcome addiction and heal themselves and their families in the process. Treatment is conducted in an environment of trust and safety, where a woman's voice is heard and respected."
Orchid utilizes groundbreaking treatment programs developed by Dr. Karen Dodge, known as "relational growth", which found that women overcome addiction faster and more completely when they are supported by a community of other women who are experiencing the same issues and facing the same challenges related to alcohol or drug addiction.
"The support system offered at Orchid is at the very core of the alcohol and drug rehab experience at our facility," adds Harrigan. "Women help other women heal and expert counselors and therapists facilitate holistic treatment programs tailor made specifically for women to improve all aspects of their lives."
Conscious eating, regular exercise and participation in spiritual work such as yoga therapy, meditation and Twelve Step meetings are all parts of the Orchid Model. Even the facility itself was carefully designed to work toward a woman's treatment. Instead of an institutional or medical setting, the Orchid's facility was designed with the aesthetics of healing in mind. Colors of the walls, textures and furnishings were chosen to encourage feelings of calm and well-being. Spaces for solitude and reflection coexist with gathering spaces that encourage socialization and networking.
Each year, Orchid provides holistic treatment for hundreds of women. Due to the success of the Orchid's unique holistic treatment programs, the organization has grown from 22 beds to a 40 bed facility. Orchid is planning for future growth with the addition of 20 more beds.
