LOS ANGELES, March 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Every child needs a safe, cozy place to sleep at night. Leading, made-in-the-USA mattress chain Ortho Mattress partners with Southern Californian charity A Place Called Home (APCH) to launch "A Bed of One's Own" program. The program makes official the company's ongoing partnership with APCH to provide beds for families in need.
In addition, Ortho Mattress will sell plush toys of its iconic mascot, Kenny Koala, at its 67 Southern California locations to benefit the charity that helps underserved youth in Los Angeles. The adorable stuffed Koala bears will retail for $25 and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to support APCH programs in education, counseling, fitness and the arts.
Ortho Mattress CEO Ken Karmin, a longtime supporter and lifetime trustee of APCH, noted, "The in-store component is a great way to build awareness for A Place Called Home – an organization near and dear to my heart – among the communities around our 67 stores. We want to raise friends as much as funds and provide our customers the opportunity to give back. Everyone deserves a bed of one's own and we commend A Place Called Home's commitment to going above and beyond for the families in our community."
"Ortho Mattress and the entire Karmin family have been loyal supporters for years," said Jonathan Zeichner, executive director of A Place Called Home. "This is a wonderful opportunity to make sure the children we serve are not sleeping on a hard floor, and also to extend our reach to a broader base of Angelenos who may not know about our work. Hopefully Kenny Koala and the 'A Bed of One's Own' program will encourage more folks to get involved as donors and volunteers."
