Orthopaedic & Spine Center of the Rockies Is Expanding Its Fort Collins Facility

FORT COLLINS, Colo., June 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The Orthopaedic & Spine Center of the Rockies has begun an expansion and remodeling of its Fort Collins facility, a project that will improve patient care and comfort.

The construction project includes the Orthopaedic & Spine Center's medical practice, x-ray, MRI scanner, therapy (rehabilitation), surgery center, and recovery center.

The construction project is scheduled to take a year. OCR will remain open for patient services during construction, except the surgery and recovery centers will close for two weeks in March 2013 during remodeling.

The project calls for an addition of 11,200 square feet and a complete remodeling of the building, including patient exam rooms, lobbies, recovery center patient rooms, MRI center, and the therapy department gym and patient treatment rooms. The project will add 20% more space to OCR's facility, along with 60 more parking spaces.

The expansion features more patient exam rooms for doctor's appointments, larger patient waiting areas for therapy and physician appointments, a new, separate entrance for therapy patients with close-in parking, more therapy treatment rooms, a larger gym for PT-OT patients, and additional casting and splinting rooms.

The work will take place in phases, some of it at night and on weekends to lessen the disruption to patients' care.

With increasing patient demand over the years, OCR had outgrown its current space. The building was built in 1990 and expanded in 1998. The new facility will encompass 67,900 square feet, 20% larger than its current size. This will provide space for 11 physicians to have patient appointments at one time, compared to eight doctors now.

"The larger building will help us keep up with patients' needs, and allow us to offer additional orthopaedic specialty and therapy services to Fort Collins and the region," said Mike Bergerson, OCR's chief executive officer. The current project represents the next phase in the development master plan for the Fort Collins facility.

The practice's Fort Collins office provides a central location for residents of the immediate area, as well as those who drive from eastern Colorado, Wyoming, and the Nebraska Panhandle. The location is two miles west of the I-25/Prospect Road interchange.

The Neenan Company has served as the designer/builder for the project since its inception. Neenan built the original building in 1990, as well as its 1998 expansion. Neenan also constructed OCR's new facility in Loveland in 2009. The Fort Collins construction project will not affect OCR's office in Loveland.

OCR owns the Fort Collins facility in partnership with University of Colorado Health/ Poudre Valley Health System.

OCR has a similar partnership with Banner Health System in the Skyline Surgery Center and medical office building in Loveland.

The practice has 24 physicians – 18 orthopaedic surgeons, two podiatrists, and four primary care sports medicine specialists. The doctors work with nine physician assistants (PA's), 20 athletic trainers and physical and occupational therapists, and additional staff of more than 200 employees.
