SHAWINIGAN, QC, June 1, 2012 /CNW/ - David Gow of Oshawa, ON, representing the Ontario Hockey League at the third annual Old Dutch® Net A Million contest, scored huge winnings, taking home $100,000 on Friday, May 25. The big event took place live on Sportsnet during the second intermission of the semi-final game of the 2012 MasterCard Memorial Cup.
Shooting from the blue line closest to the target goal, Gow successfully scored 19 of 20 pucks in 20 seconds (only 16 pucks in would have won) to net him $100,000 in cash. The capacity crowd in the Centre Bionest celebrated wildly with Gow and son Nathaniel upon learning he'd taken home the prize.
The $250,000 contestant, Greg Flynn of Maple Ridge, BC, shooting from the center line came up just one puck short of his goal, but still earned $500 for each goal he made, taking home $7,500. Helmut Bernhard of Laval, QC, took to the ice during the second intermission of Sunday night's MasterCard Memorial Cup final game in an attempt to take home $1,000,000, and while unsuccessful in winning the full cash prize took home $2,000 for the four pucks he did put in the net.
