Over 200 Years... 44 Presidents... In One Place for the First Time

WASHINGTON, Feb. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Concluding more than a year of preparation and planning, the ultimate three-dimensional tribute to America's history and its commanders-in-chief is now a reality as Madame Tussauds Washington D.C. today announced that its $2 million-plus U.S. Presidents Gallery—which houses wax figures of all 44 U.S. Presidents—has opened its doors.  Just in time for Presidents Day, the Gallery is the only place in the world where people can see and interact with all 44 U.S. Presidents.

The Gallery is a brand new, permanent exhibit displaying all 44 U.S. Presidents in an exciting, educational and interactive environment—joining the attraction's many other Hollywood, sports and historical icons.  Comprised of 14 highly themed immersive rooms, throughout the experience guests will learn about the history of the United States of America through the lives of its iconic leaders.

From the Gallery's Founding Fathers and Civil War Rooms to the World War II and Lunar Landing Rooms, a wide variety of educational and interactive experiences await guests, including: joining George Washington in his boat crossing the Delaware River; sitting next to Franklin D. Roosevelt to hear a fireside chat; and standing alongside Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin during a black & white transmission from the moon's surface.

In anticipation of the opening of the Presidents Gallery, figures of Presidents have been popping up across the country.  Throughout the last year, figures have been sighted at locations including the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids, MI;  the Independence Visitor Center in Philadelphia, PA; and at the Mount Rushmore Memorial in South Dakota. In conjunction with the Gallery debut, Madame Tussauds D.C. has also launched a microsite dedicated to the U.S. Presidents Gallery, located at http://dcpresidentsgallery.com/.  The site provides additional information on the Gallery and the Presidents, as well as a variety of different resources that allow visitors to expand on the Gallery experience.

As a rich educational resource, the Gallery includes a curriculum focused on the history of the U.S. Presidents.  The new curriculum was designed to empower educators with tools to deliver exciting lessons in areas such as history, political science, social studies and media – before and after visiting the attraction.
