Over 2,500 Participants Attend Third Annual Town's Half Marathon
Running enthusiasts from across 30 states, celebrate the 13.1-mile race, 24Life 5K and downtown Oakland festival, which supports the city's revitalization efforts
OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Over 2,500 participants attended the third annual Town's Half Marathon in Oakland, California, on Saturday. Running enthusiasts, from across 30 states, celebrate the 13.1-mile race or 24Life 5K. The downtown event has become a landmark community event, which supports the city's revitalization efforts to boost the local economy.

Spanning 13.1 miles from start to finish, the race route, named "Tour of Oakland", showcased iconic areas along the route which included, Jack London Square, Downtown, City Center, Uptown, Piedmont Ave, Temescal Alley & Telegraph Ave and Grand Ave from Pleasant Valley to Lake Merritt. The race start and finish took place at Frank Ogawa Plaza. New to this year, participants were offered a VIP race experience option, offering line bypass, a VIP lounge, a post race massage and much more.
The top male finisher in the half marathon division was Jesse Cherry, from Oakland, CA, with an unofficial race time of 1:08:01. The top female finisher in the half marathon division was 13-year-old Hope Bergmark, from Pleasanton, CA, with an unofficial race time of 1:25:23. The top runner in the 24Life 5K was Zachery Connolly from Hayward, CA, with an unoffical race time of 17:37.
At the finish line, finishers were greeted with a medal and commemorative mason jar. Following the run, the RunOak Festival was open to the public and featured a local collection of live music, food and beer.
