RIDGEFIELD, Conn., Jan. 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Owl Computing Technologies, Inc., a network security and information solutions provider, is pleased to announce the receipt of another patent for work in securing network communications against cyber threats.
This latest patent allows users to do secure file sharing across isolated or segmented networks. Users can "reach down" to files housed at a different security level, obtain immediate access to portions of very large files and access files in enterprise networks as well as in the cloud.
As more enterprises recognize the cybersecurity threats facing them, they have implemented defensive strategies for segmenting and isolating different parts of their operations. While this provides excellent protection from many cyber threats, it can separate users from the files they need and make working with those files difficult.
Owl Computing's new technology allows users to maintain secure and isolated domains while requesting and accessing files through a transparent and secure implementation of the Network File Sharing (NFS) protocol. The traditional two way communication path used by NFS is separated via data diodes into two discrete, single direction paths (request & response). Each path passes through a distinct data diode which protects the integrity of each network while allowing files to be exchanged between them.
Dr. Ron Mraz, CEO and patent holder, noted, "Isolating networks is an incredible defense mechanism but isn't great for productivity. Allowing users to access files on demand in the cloud or in other network domains, while keeping their network secure, is a real game changer."
