Pain Recovery Gets Simpler With The First Completely Online Physical Therapy Alternative

NEW YORK, Dec. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- SimpleTherapy Inc., a New York-based company that has beta tested its online exercise therapy programs for a year, has emerged with two large health insurance companies as customers and $1.3 million in angel backing.

SimpleTherapy allows each user to instantaneously begin a video-based exercise therapy program that's customized to his or her needs. Programs cover head-to-toe pain and involve a series of 15-20 minute, algorithm-driven video sessions generated on demand for each user. Programs adapt constantly to feedback, allowing users to progress individually to pain recovery, typically over a matter of weeks.

In the U.S., musculoskeletal pain is the number two reason for doctor visits, forming a $300 billion pain management industry. Busy professionals and baby boomers are unable to follow through on the 100 million physical therapy prescriptions issued annually, leading to chronic pain issues and escalating healthcare costs.

SimpleTherapy's two new customers, both Top 7 health insurance companies, are offering the service to members through dedicated online portals. Many large self-insured employers will also offer SimpleTherapy to their employees as a virtual healthcare option in 2015.

The company is already in talks with top venture capital firms as it prepares to raise an additional $3 million in early 2015.
