Palisades FCU Supports the North Rockland High School Academy of Finance

PEARL RIVER, N.Y., Aug. 31 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Palisades Federal Credit Union (PFCU) has a deep commitment to improving the future of students, especially those in the North Rockland High School (NRHS) Academy of Finance. This year, the NRHS Academy of Finance had some trouble finding each student their required, paid, summer internship. However, PFCU was more than happy to help by providing not one, but three jobs. Kim Green, Ahsan Hussain, and Jillian Mazza spent most of their summer as employees of the PFCU team.

The students are enrolled in the Academy of Finance for their junior and senior years; the courses include: accounting, economics, financial planning, and most offer college credits. During the summer months of enrollment, they must complete an internship assigned by the Director, Pamela Schaefer.

"The economy provided many obstacles for me this year," said Schaefer. "With the large number of layoffs throughout the county, many companies were unable to support a paid intern. Palisades Federal Credit Union on the other hand, was a huge help."

PFCU hired a marketing intern, a general office intern, and a teller intern for six weeks this summer. They worked a full time shift five days a week. "I feel really lucky that Mrs. Schaefer chose me to work in marketing at PFCU. I was able to learn so much about a career that I am now very interested in," said Jillian Mazza, marketing intern. PFCU plans to continue providing the NRHS Academy of Finance with internships, as it has done for the past 8 years.
