REDMOND, Wash., Jan. 30, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Panda Timelines (http://pandatimelines.com/) is a new website where anyone can quickly, easily build an attractive and richly informative timeline. Registration to the site is free, and timelines can be shared via email, Facebook and Twitter. So far, Panda Timelines has empowered users to create timelines based around family events, personal histories, school projects, religion, event planning, and entertainment and fandom. The possibilities are limited only by one's imagination.
"We are passionate about creativity and self-expression," says Panda Timelines Founder Douglas Olson, "and we've given people all the tools to put together amazing timelines, then share them with friends and family. Soon, people in your social circle will be making and sharing timelines of their own."
Most people are familiar with what a timeline is and the kind of information it communicates — basically, it's a way to visually present a series of events in chronological order. But until now, there hasn't been a simple way for just anyone to create timelines with attractive layouts, and with seamless social media integration.
To get started making timelines, users create a free account with Panda Timelines. An intuitive editing tool means no special talents or skills are needed to build something impressive. At the top of each timelines is a title, followed by an optional description field. Adding a banner image is an effective way to communicate the timeline's theme visually. Three privacy settings are available to timeline creators. Private timelines are viewable only by the user, while public timelines can be seen by anyone. A third option is to choose a password that can be given to a select few friends and family.
Each event on the timeline includes a title, date and, if necessary, time. The description field allows for a deeper explanation of the event's significance, or for providing supporting details and notes. Hyperlinks can direct visitors to outside sources of information. Every event is marked on the timeline with a graphical icon, which are selected from more than a dozen categories. Finally, users are free to add an image, video and/or link to their created events.
At the bottom of the timeline, users can enter references, conclusions or notes into an optional footer. Additionally, a comments section encourages engagement and conversation between creators and anyone else who can see the timeline.
To encourage an extended range of subjects, the website also supports free form timelines that can be used for events needing prehistoric, geological, cosmic, or even fictional calendar systems.
The Panda Timelines website features a help section for frequently asked questions, plus a support forum where users can become part of a community and even share their latest creations.
"Convenient sharing options are just one way we're building a real community around Panda Timelines," adds Olson. "And we're excited to see what our users are able to create with the tools we've given them."
Early users of Panda Timelines have already put together some fascinating creations. Some examples include a timeline of important family events, a history of the Marvel Comics character "Doctor Strange," an event planning timeline for a wedding, and a retrospective look at classic Atari arcade games.
The Panda Timelines team has some ambitious plans for the site in 2017. They will continue adding new features that expand the editing tool's capabilities, making the creation of timelines even easier. Soon, timeline creators will be able to embed timelines on their own WordPress or web pages, which will likely drive up interest in the site even further. Additional plans include improved printing support, the ability to work with different calendar systems, and an iOS application so users can go mobile with their timelines.
