WASHINGTON, Sept. 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Paralyzed Veterans of America honored U.S. Senator Jerry Moran of Kansas with its prestigious 2025 Gordon H. Mansfield Congressional Leadership Award. First presented to Senator Bob Dole in 2015, PVA established this award to recognize strong leadership and support of its legislative priorities in the areas of Veterans' health care, benefits, and disability civil rights.
As chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs, Sen. Moran was invaluable in securing the passage of the Senator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act by Congress last year. Signed into law in January, this legislation's many benefits and reforms will ensure that some of the most urgent needs of the nation's seriously ill, injured, and aging veterans are met, and their caregivers can thrive.
"Paralyzed Veterans of America is honored to present this year's Gordon H. Mansfield Congressional Leadership Award to Chairman Moran, whose steadfast commitment to America's veterans, especially those living with serious disabilities, helped make the Elizabeth Dole Act a reality," said Robert Thomas, U.S. Army Veteran and national president of PVA. "We are grateful for his leadership and look forward to continuing our work together to advance critical policies that ensure catastrophically injured and ill veterans receive the care and support they deserve."
The award was formally presented to Chairman Moran yesterday afternoon on Capitol Hill following the conclusion of a hearing before the U.S. Senate Committee on Veterans' Affairs entitled, "Strengthening Services for Veterans with Spinal Cord Injury and Disorder," at which President Thomas testified. In presenting the award to Chairman Moran, President Thomas expressed PVA's heartfelt gratitude for his unyielding commitment to supporting Veterans with spinal cord injuries and diseases, and all veterans with disabilities.
"I am grateful to Paralyzed Veterans of America, the only veterans service organization dedicated to empowering veterans with spinal cord injury and disorder, for honoring me with the Gordon H. Mansfield Congressional Leadership Award," said Sen. Moran. "I appreciate the work PVA does to support some of the most vulnerable veterans in Kansas and across the country, along with their advocacy in Washington for important legislation like the Veterans' ACCESS Act. I look forward to continuing to work alongside PVA and its members to improve services and accessibility for veterans everywhere."
A longtime resident of Kansas, Sen. Moran is dedicated to protecting and preserving the special way of life there. He serves on several key committees, including Veterans' Affairs, Appropriations, and Commerce, Science and Transportation.
