Parents, Teachers and Students Celebrate Creativity at North Carolina PTA Conference
Two-day conference provides updates on arts in education, health, school budgets, and the new Standard Course of Study
RALEIGH, N.C., April 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The North Carolina Parent Teacher Association (NCPTA) will host hundreds of parents, educators and students from across the state in Raleigh at the annual NCPTA Parent Education Conference April 27 and 28 at the Hilton North Raleigh. National and local experts will provide perspectives on creativity in the classroom, ideas and resources for healthy school environments, the complexity of school funding, and upcoming changes to the Standard Course of Study.

NC Symphony Resident Conductor William Henry Curry will be the guest speaker at the NCPTA Annual Awards and Reflections Ceremony. Students who placed at the state-level for the PTA Reflections arts competition will join conference attendees for the awards ceremony.
Speakers for the opening session include Dr. Helen A. Soule, director of state partnerships for Partnership for 21st Century Skills; Keith Fishburne, president and CEO of Special Olympics NC; Katherine Joyce, assistant executive director of the NC Association of School Administrators; Philip Price, chief financial officer for the NC Department of Public Instruction; and Vito Borrello, member of the board of directors for National PTA.
Conference workshop topics include leadership styles, healthy school environments, tools for North Carolina's New Standard Course of Study, measuring effective teaching, and FoodCorps in NC. A preview of the workshops planned for the NCPTA Summer Leadership Training, which is scheduled for June 2 in Raleigh, will also be presented at the conference.
