The mission of the Special Olympics is to "provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community."
Parker & Sons has long been committed to the Special Olympics of Arizona. Just recently representative of Parker & Sons attended the Special Olympics of Arizona's 9th annual Breakfast with Champions which was held to honor athletes who had participated in the Special Olympics. At the breakfast, community leaders, law enforcement officials, volunteers, and other local business gathered to listen to inspirational speakers. Loretta Claiborne, marathon runner, winner of the 1996 Arthur Ashe ESPY Courage Award, and Special Olympian gave the key note address.
In addition to attending the Breakfast with Champion, Parker & Sons has spent much of 2015 partnering with the Arizona Diamondbacks to triple donations which were given to the Special Olympics. The program, which ended in September, raised nearly $300,000. Each dollar will be used to support the 18,227 adults and children who participate in the Special Olympics across the state of Arizona.
