NEW YORK, May 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Wines of Vinho Verde USA announces the "Passport to Vinho Verde" promotion, which will run during the entire month of June at wine shops in New York, Chicago and San Francisco. Participating retailers will showcase indigenous grapes of the Vinho Verde region and host educational tastings and specials during the month.

At the Passport to Vinho Verde events, wine lovers can experience a full range of Vinho Verde styles—from the fun, fizzy traditional blends to the more elegant, single grape varietal whites made from Alvarinho and Loureiro to the bright and fruity Espadeiro roses. Vinho Verde wines have balanced acidity and are light in alcohol and calorie content, making them enjoyable on their own or when paired with a fresh summer dish.
"We understand that some may not be familiar with the indigenous grapes of the Vinho Verde region yet," said Manuel Pinheiro, Executive President of the Vinho Verde Regional Viticultural Commission. "So, we welcome the opportunity to introduce American consumers to a whole new side of Vinho Verde through the Passport to Vinho Verde program. And, we hope they will make some fun, new discoveries along the way. "
Additionally, starting June 1, 2013, consumers can enter a sweepstakes* to win a trip for two to the Vinho Verde region of Portugal by entering here.
The Passport to Vinho Verde wine promotion is part of a three-year campaign, underwritten by CVRVV and Wines of Portugal, to increase interest and awareness for Vinho Verde wines and the Vinho Verde region of Portugal in the U.S.
