Patient Shield Concepts to Pursue GSA Schedule, Will Expand Reach to Supply DoD, Field Hospitals and VA
DENVER, March 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Patient Shield Concepts, LLC. announced plans today to apply for a GSA Schedule and actively pursue federal contracts. Federal officials appreciate GSA Schedules as a means of procuring goods and services, knowing that companies on these schedules have been qualified by the General Services Administration (GSA). Patient Shield Concepts plans on expanding their distribution model to supply their infection reducing Medstrap Holster to the surgical, respiratory and critical care centers of the Department of Defense (DoD) and Veterans Affairs Centers (VA).
Recent studies have shown that 12% of patients who undergo moderate to high risk surgical procedures develop hospital-acquired infections. Mortality rates in infected patients have been shown to be 14.5%, compared to 1.8% in uninfected patients. In response to the dangers associated with cross contamination, Patient Shield Concepts has developed a unique, disposable suction tip holster designed for individual patients that can easily be attached or removed from virtually any bedrail, whether in surgery, post-surgery, critical care, emergency room or in transport on a gurney.
"The increase of hospital acquired infections is reaching crisis levels with the latest available data showing that over a 100,000 patients die yearly in the USA as a result of contracting a serious infection while in the hospital," states Dr. Lynn White, President at Patient Shield Concepts, LLC. She continues, "Securing a GSA schedule will expand our reach beyond the federal government to numerous state and municipal governments as they will be able to take advantage of our MEDSTRAP products at set government pricing."
In 70% of surgical settings, an anesthesia specialist is called upon to keep the patient's airway clear of secretions using a suction tip attached to a hose with a vacuum attachment. Once the sterile suction tip has been used in the patient, it is contaminated and should not be allowed to touch any person, object, or surface. The patented Medstrap Holster was designed to specifically address this serious cross-contamination and infectious threat to patients.
Patient Shield Concepts has selected GSA Applications to manage their tender process, facilitating the application preparation, submission and negotiations with government contractors at the GSA.
