GLEN COVE, N.Y., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to the news that DePuy Orthopaedics, the manufacturer of an artificial hip system, issued a recall of its ASR product line after data indicated a higher than expected need for device replacement surgery five years after the initial procedure, Dr. Eugene S. Krauss, chairman of the Department of Orthopedics and director of the Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Institute at Glen Cove Hospital, a member of the North Shore-LIJ Health System, states:

Eugene S. Krauss, M.D., FAAOS, FACS, is a graduate of Columbia's College of Physicians and Surgeons. He completed residencies in orthopedics at the Hospital for Special Surgery and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Fellowships abroad included orthopedic reconstructive surgery in Basel, Switzerland, and pelvic and acetabular fracture fixation and reconstruction in Paris. Dr. Krauss was appointed Chief of Orthopedic Trauma at North Shore University Hospital and was subsequently named Chairman of Orthopedics. Soon after coming to North Shore University Hospital, Dr. Krauss established the Musculoskeletal Institute, a multidisciplinary affiliate, and served as CEO, President, Medical Director and Surgeon-in-Chief for five years.
