PCCD Offering Free "Smiles for Troops"
Peninsula Center of Cosmetic Dentistry Offers Top-Notch Care to Returning Veterans for Free Nov. 9, 2013
LOS ALTOS, Calif., Oct. 8, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Bay Area veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan will be pampered with top-notch dental care for free Nov. 9 at Peninsula Center of Cosmetic Dentistry in Los Altos, CA. The leading cosmetic dentistry and implant center in the Bay Area hosts its first-ever "Smiles for Troops" event all day Saturday, Nov. 9 with PCCD staff and others volunteering their time to perform free cleanings, fillings, crowns, root canals, wisdom teeth removal and repairs to chipped teeth.
PCCD partners, Dr. Bruce Hartley and Dr. Joseph Field have performed volunteer work for domestic violence victims, and have served in large public clinics in the Bay Area and abroad. But with the tide of war receding in the U.S., the office wanted to specifically serve veterans returning from recent conflicts in the Middle East.
On Nov. 9, Dr. Hartley and Dr. Field, as well as PCCD's Dr. John McFarlane will be on-hand with several hygienists and dental assistants to treat as many veterans as they can – free of charge. Veterans can call to make an appointment for "Smiles for Troops", and must provide military identification and work orders. PCCD staff will then triage the most pressing cases and go to work Saturday – taking digital X-rays, and performing lots of cleanings, and fillings. Two specialist doctors – Dr. Kingstone Shih, an Endodontist, and Dr. Joseph Kim, an Oral Surgeon - will also be on-hand for root canals and extractions.
Veterans' dental care can be spotty or non-existent during deployment, and conditions leave much to be desired. Back home, veterans report difficulty accessing dental services through the Veterans Health Administration.
Conversely, PCCD will spoil troops Nov. 9 with a relaxing, efficient, spa-like environment at their Los Altos boutique. The choice of beauty models and others in the entertainment industry, PCCD specializes in cosmetic dentistry, IV sedation, dental implants, Invisalign orthodontics, and general dentistry.
"We're a quality oriented office offering top-notch dentistry. We feel so grateful to our veteran military men and women, and we want to be able to serve them with our best. The whole office supports our heroes!" said Smiles for Troops coordinator Tanya Hartley.
PCCD is also receiving loads of support from vendors like Patterson Dental and Zimmer Implants. The office is working to assemble a goodie-bag for every veteran patient including a Sonicare electronic toothbrush and other hygiene items.
