PCS Edventures Completes Pilot STEM Program With Educators in Egypt
BOISE, Idaho, July 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PCS Edventures!.com, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: PCSV), a leading provider of K-16 educational programs utilizing hands-on manipulatives, computer technology and robotics that focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), today announced the successful completion of a three-month robotics program pilot with educational partners in Cairo and Alexandria, Egypt.
PCS demonstrated its educational materials to Egyptian education partners, including the Ministry of Education, individuals involved in U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) projects, and other potential partners, beginning with a trial robotics competition program in conjunction with Bibliotech Alexandria and the Integrated Care Society, a philanthropic organization founded by Egypt's first lady, Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak.
"The success of the pilot program in Egypt illustrates our ability to teach easily adaptable hands-on learning with the robotics technology that has played a key role at PCS for more than 20 years," stated Robert Grover, President of PCS Edventures. "This collaboration represents an extension of our goal to provide educational services focused on the technology and creativity that make learning easier and accessible to students at every level."
High school students, male and female, competed in building robotic "bowlers" to beat a challenge of knocking down bowling pins in a ring. PCS presented the results of the pilot and introduced its hands-on educational programs to over 70 Egyptian educators and potential partners at an event hosted by the U.S. Embassy on March 11, 2010. Event attendees included representatives of major companies seeking to build STEM-capable student programs, local private schools, representatives of Bibliotech Alexandria and the Integrated Care Society, and the Ministry of Education.
"It was rewarding to see students work with teammates to implement the technical skills they have learned, and to appreciate how worthwhile and motivating science and math can be for young people. We look forward to launching a new robotics competition this fall," noted Dr. Mohammed Yasser Refai, Chief Executive Officer of Global Techniques, the exclusive distributor and licensee for PCS in Egypt. Located in Cairo, Global Techniques has been instrumental in introducing PCS Learning Labs and solutions throughout the Middle East.
PCS is now developing a follow-up to the pilot program that targets middle and high schools in Egypt. PCS anticipates that the follow-up program will expand its geographic reach beyond Alexandria and Cairo to include Aswan.
