Former Marine Terry Mahoney to stand vigil for 1,000 minutes for former Marine Hekmati; member of Congress to speak; Hekmati family and others to participate throughout the day
WASHINGTON, May 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Beginning at 12:20am Monday, May 19, former Marine Terry Mahoney will stand vigil for 1,000 minutes, leading a peaceful vigil at Lafayette Park in front of the White House and reflecting on Amir's imprisonment. He will emphasize that Amir and his family have suffered long enough.
At 11:00am and 6:00pm, Amir's family, former Marine Terry Mahoney, Amir's congressman, religious leaders and others will gather and speak. The public and media are encourage to attend.
This Memorial Day, Amir Hekmati will endure his 1,000th day of wrongful imprisonment. This is a call for citizens and officials to reflect peacefully on the freedoms they have enjoyed the past 1,000 days and question why an innocent American who served his country languishes in an Iranian prison.
Beloved by all who know him, Amir has missed many valuable moments with his family and friends over the past 1,000 days. Historic milestones, major-family moments and simple life pleasures, alike, have passed him by.
Further, a greater reason for Amir to be released, is to see his father once again, who has terminal brain cancer and recently suffered a stroke.
