FRANKLIN, Tenn., June 27, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- As the nation prepares to celebrate Independence Day, the PEDIGREE® brand is commemorating a moment in American history that shows how dogs and humans benefit each other. As part of the latest installment of the FEED THE GOOD™ campaign, the PEDIGREE® brand is spotlighting a true story from the Revolutionary War with a new video, "General Howe's Dog".
"General Howe's Dog" recreates a true 1777 U.S. Revolutionary War story when amid the fighting, a dog makes its way into General George Washington's camp, and is identified as belonging to Commander-in-Chief of the British Forces, General Howe. Ultimately, General Washington's decision on what to do with Howe's dog illustrates the enduring affection people have for dogs, which can unite and connect us even during the darkest moments of conflict.
To help mark this historical moment and the impact dogs have had on people throughout history, Colonial Williamsburg and its own mascot, Liberty the dog, will honor the story and the PEDIGREE® brand's FEED THE GOOD™ message. Liberty will wear the PEDIGREE® bandana throughout Colonial Williamsburg and spread awareness for the video and the powerful message behind it.
"The idea that dogs and people have a positive impact on each other remains as relevant today as it was more than 200 years ago," explained Brian Nugent, Marketing Director, Dry Dog Food at Mars Petcare. "From the moment we heard the true story of General Howe's dog, we knew it was something that captured the spirit of our FEED THE GOOD™ message. Working with Colonial Williamsburg and Liberty to join us in sharing the story of General Howe's dog makes this a special Independence Day."
Colonial Williamsburg is the world's largest living history museum in the country and lets visitors become part of one of the greatest stories ever told – the dawn of America. As a dog lover himself, George Washington is known for creating the American foxhound breed, but his menagerie included many other types of dogs. Liberty – a Briard – represents the type of dogs contemporary to 18th-century Williamsburg, and can be seen on the streets of the Historic Area, where she serves as an ambassador to guests of all ages.
"General Howe's Dog" is the newest addition to the PEDIGREE® brand's global FEED THE GOOD™ campaign, which launched in 2015 and is based on the simple insight that dogs and humans benefit each other. The campaign is brought to life through an array of impactful video content that incites conversation about the positive effect dogs have on people. These touching videos include "A Vote for Good," a social experiment that shows how even people with opposing political views during a divisive election can be united by a lost dog; and "Pick Me," a thought-provoking video that sheds light on the human benefits of rescuing a dog.
