Penn National Brings Year Two Of Regional + National Hollywood Poker Open Tournaments Culminating With $500,000 Guaranteed Championship At M Resort
World poker champion Chris Moneymaker to compete, conduct meet & greets at local and regional events
WYOMISSING, Pa., Oct. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Penn National Gaming is pleased to announce that it will begin the second season of the Hollywood Poker Open tournament series at Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg on Friday, November 15, 2013.
On the heels of the first successful Hollywood Poker Open Championship Event, which culminated this past June at the M Resort Casino & Spa, Penn National Gaming is continuing with season 2, attracting poker players from across the world to compete for the HPO title and a piece of the $500,000 guaranteed prize pool.
Last season, PNG sent over 200 qualifiers from 21 of their properties to compete at the M for a chance at the big prize. The day of the event saw over 400 players register for the tournament, increasing the field to over 600 players, which boosted the prize pool to $1,400,000.
This season, the first Regional 10-day series will be held in Lawrenceburg, IN at the Hollywood Casino property from Friday, November 15 and culminating on Monday, November 25. At least two of the tournaments in this series will qualify players for seats at the 2014 HPO Championship Event. The Championship Event will be returning to the M Resort Casino & Spa in late June 2014.
From November 2013 until June 2014, the Hollywood Poker Open will hold Regional and Local tournaments at their many properties to qualify players for seats at the Championship Event in June 2014. The Regional series will be mostly be 10-day events and the Local series will last anywhere from 3-5 days.
The final new addition to season 2 of the HPO series is one of the most recognizable faces in poker - 2003 WSOP Champion Chris Moneymaker. The man who started the rebirth of poker 10 years ago will serve as the ambassador of the HPO brand by competing in Regional & Local tournaments, (starting with the Lawrenceburg Regional Main Event) appearing in advertising and spending time with players during meet and greets at various property locations. Moneymaker told us, "I'm really happy to be representing the Hollywood Poker Open. I like what they've built here in their first year and I'm hoping we can make this year's experience even better."
