HANOVER, Pa., March 22, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry Secretary Kathy Manderino and Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary Dennis Davin today continued the "Jobs that Pay" tour at McClarin Plastics, Inc. in Hanover. Manderino and Davin participated in a business roundtable hosted by the Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce with numerous manufacturing companies participating.
"Manufacturing is a vital sector of Pennsylvania's economy and the importance of training new workers for this industry cannot be overlooked," said Sec. Manderino. "It is our goal that Pennsylvania's workforce development system continues to work with community colleges and career and technical education providers to establish a workforce of highly skilled employees that fosters a robust manufacturing sector."
"Speaking with manufacturing employers and training providers on the Jobs that Pay tour is providing invaluable feedback in our efforts to not only support manufacturing in the state, but to bring more of it here," said Sec. Davin. "We need to supply the right workforce for manufacturing jobs, too, and let young students know how careers in manufacturing are a viable path to economic success for them and their communities."
Manderino and Davin followed the roundtable meeting with a tour of the McClarin Plastics facility. McClarin Plastics is a premier contract manufacturer of large thermoformed plastic and fiberglass-reinforced plastic components, providing production throughout North America and China and international exports elsewhere in Asia and Europe.
The Jobs that Pay tour is an effort by state agencies to promote good-paying, family-sustaining jobs and career-paths available to job-seekers across the commonwealth, and to listen and learn from employers and employees about workforce development needs.
"The tour has been a real learning experience for us at L&I," Sec. Manderino said. "We have heard much about the needs of employees and employers throughout the commonwealth. Talking with these groups has provided helpful, bottom-up information, and will continue to serve us well as we work on facilitating an environment to create real jobs that pay."
