Peterbilt Showcases Quantum's New Back-of-Cab CNG Storage System
- 123 Diesel Gallon Equivalent Back-of-Cab CNG Storage System for Medium and Heavy Duty Truck Applications
LAKE FOREST, Calif., March 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide, Inc. (NASDAQ: QTWW), a global leader in natural gas storage systems, integration and vehicle system technologies, today announced that Peterbilt is showcasing Quantum's new Back-of-Cab (BOC) compressed natural gas (CNG) storage module installed on a Peterbilt 579 truck at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville KY, March 27th to 29th, 2014.
Quantum recently designed, engineered, and introduced this high capacity, light-weight, CNG storage system for the fast growing natural gas truck retro-fit, dealer up fit and OEM market segments. This new BOC module uses Quantum's industry leading Q-lite® tank technology and stores 123 DGE (Diesel Gallon Equivalent) of fuel. It is approximately 1,000 lbs lighter than competitive products; which translates into higher payload capacity for the truck owner.
Installation of the BOC module with additional Quantum frame rail mounted CNG modules can achieve a total capacity of up to 216 DGE, which can provide up to 900 miles total range. The BOC module can also be used independently, offering sufficient range for many distribution applications. This module offers the lowest price per DGE in the industry and allows open frame rail space for accessories.
Quantum is utilizing almost 20 years of OEM level CNG experience. This new BOC CNG module has been developed in close cooperation with large fleet customers and OEMs and will be built at Quantum's CNG module production center in Lake Forest, California.
These compact BOC modules are a fully integrated 3,600 psi storage solution that can be installed in a matter of hours. System installation and service on new and used trucks will be supported by a growing network of CNG experienced truck dealers and truck service providers who partner with Quantum.
"We are excited to be introducing this light-weight BOC storage module installed on a Peterbilt 579 CNG BOC truck at the Mid-America Trucking Show. This new product complements our growing portfolio of high capacity CNG tanks and modules at industry-leading prices," commented Brian Olson, President and CEO of Quantum. "We pride ourselves on offering the marketplace innovative, light-weight, reliable and cost-effective storage solutions and are preparing for strong market demand for this newly introduced product offering."
