Phoenix Christian Unified Schools Cuts Tuition by 18 Percent
School Board rolls back fees to 2007 levels to assist families during hard economic times
PHOENIX, April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Phoenix Christian Unified Schools (PCUS), which includes Arizona's first Christian high school, today announced a significant reduction in tuition rates for current and incoming students for the 2010-2011 school year. In a unanimous vote last Thursday, the PCUS School Board approved the fee rollback to allow more families impacted by the current economic recession access to private, high-quality and affordable preschool through 12th grade education.
"Our entire school community is very excited to welcome families in the greater Phoenix area who desire outstanding education in an environment that promotes the intellectual, physical, emotional and spiritual growth of each student," said PCUS Superintendent James Koan. "This decision helps open the door for more students to enroll in a private Christian school that will prepare them for the rigors of college life and beyond. Our teachers and faculty are dedicated to providing students a challenging academic curriculum, leading athletics programs, diverse extracurricular activities and opportunities for leadership."
PCUS promotes a learning environment that encourages both students and teachers to delve deeper into subject areas such as mathematics, science, social studies, foreign language, language arts and technology. Sophomores, juniors and seniors can also earn college credit while still in high school by taking dual-enrollment and Advance Placement classes, including U.S. History, Government, Literature, Biology, Spanish, European History, Calculus and Language.
Also a leader in Arizona high school athletics, PCUS boasts 25 state championships and 70 regional championships in 17 different sports. Both high school and junior high students have opportunities to compete in over 17 different Arizona Interscholastic Association Division 2A varsity sports.
Each year, an impressive number of graduating seniors receive academic honors and awards. The class of 2009 earned more than $1.3 million in scholarships at nationally renowned colleges and universities. Eleven athletes from that class also earned athletic scholarships and are currently competing at the college varsity level. In addition, over the last ten years, 88 PCUS graduates earned college scholarships at National Collegiate Athletic Association Division 1 and below schools.
"Over the past few years, many families have experienced dramatic reductions in income caused by unemployment and other factors," said Koan. "With everything parents have to worry about in today's economy, providing their children quality education in a safe and supportive environment should not be one of them. We have room to grow and believe that now, more than ever, young people need the strong foundation and superior education that Phoenix Christian offers."
