Phoenix's MDT's Tulip Umbrellas Help Clarendon Hotel Transform Rooftop to Prime Eventing Space, Increase Revenues
Luxury Boutique Hotel Re-Establishes itself as Phoenix Landmark with Rooftop Renovation
TYRONE, Ga., May 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Phoenix's hottest destination for outdoor events is The Clarendon Hotel - Phoenix's Urban Retreat, thanks to its recently renovated rooftop. The space offers a stunning aesthetic, now with sun shade and evening sophistication, thanks to stellar design and the addition of tulip umbrellas from outdoor shade management solution manufacturer, MDT-Tex (www.mdt-tex.com).
In addition to providing shade coverage, MDT's tulip umbrellas provide lighting for the evening events, such as weddings, parties and corporate functions, all held at the upscale 105-room luxury boutique hotel. Since installing the 13-foot tulip umbrellas, the boutique hotel has seen a significant increase in bookings for the rooftop event space, and owner Ben Bethel predicts the property's annual rooftop sales will increase by more than 200 percent.
"The weather plays a crucial role in event planning at the hotel since Phoenix only gets about 12 days of rain per year, it therefore tends to be very bright, and at times, extremely hot," said Bethel, owner and general manager of The Clarendon. "MDT's umbrellas provide unique coverage from the sun to extend the season by a few months per year allowing us to increase our catering and event revenues."
According to Joel Linton, MDT's vice president of business development, more hoteliers and restaurateurs are creating rooftop spaces.
"MDT has continued to see an increase in sales by hospitality clients such as The Clarendon Hotel," said Linton. "By designing new spaces and re-evaluating existing outdoor areas, the U.S. hospitality industry can create an attractive, usable space that can extend their outdoor season and drive revenue."
In addition to The Clarendon Hotel, the tulip is showcased at Chicago's Wit Hotel "Roof" Lounge, the Encore Beach Club at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas and at the Hookah Lounge in Mexico City. The tulip umbrella was also featured on the grounds at the 2010 U.S. Open Tennis Tournament in Flushing, N.Y.
