PinkTent.com Kicks Off STD Awareness Month With Funding Campaign For Women Living With Herpes
Dr. Kelly's online community, focuses on empowering women to live whole, healthy lives after an STD diagnosis, and looks to help the 1 in 4 people worldwide who are living with herpes.
BOULDER, Colo., April 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- April is National STD Awareness month, and Dr. Kelly announced today the launch of a crowd-funded campaign on IndieGoGo.com.
"I envision Pink Tent as an online refuge for women," said Dr. Kelly Schuh, who was diagnosed with herpes in her 20s. "We're building a supportive community environment, where women can come as they are to discuss their fears, struggles, and questions about living life after herpes."
With an estimated 1 in 4 people living with herpes worldwide, and normal STD screening not including a herpes test, the need for better education and increased awareness is woefully clear.
"Herpes has a devastating effect on people's lives," she said, "leaving women with questions regarding their sexual health, love life, and future pregnancy. Ignorance and uncertainty lead to shame and uninformed decisions."
The time has come to de-stigmatize herpes and drag it out of the shadows. Dr. Kelly's campaign looks to make the PinkTent.com community available to as many people as possible.
"It offers conversation, natural management techniques, and other powerful tools to help women," Dr. Kelly added. "It's only fitting that a project of this origin and scope should be crowd-funded through IndieGoGo.com."
The campaign is 45 days, beginning Wednesday, April 4, 2012, targeting funds for the distribution of Dr. Kelly's full length book, "Live, Love & Thrive With Herpes: A Holistic Guide For Women," and for building out the multi-platform support community.
"Many people across the globe have a story of themselves or of someone close to them who has been impacted by herpes," Dr. Kelly said. "This is an opportunity to build something together that empowers women needlessly suffering the private pain that comes with an STD."
