Pisco Porton® Wins Chairman's Trophy at Ultimate Spirits Challenge

Peruvian Pisco Reigns Supreme Among Hundreds of Entrants

Mar 20, 2012, 07:00 ET from Pisco Porton

NEW YORK, March 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Pisco Porton®, the flavorful and full-bodied ultra-premium white spirit from Peru, was awarded the prestigious Chairman's Trophy at the annual Ultimate Spirits Challenge earlier this month. This marks the first time within the competition's three year history that any pisco brand has received this award, positioning Pisco Porton at the forefront of the resurgence of the grape-based spirit from Peru. This news comes just one month before the brand's one year anniversary in April, reinforcing Pisco Porton's standing at the top of its class and setting a precedent as the first premium mosto verde pisco brand in the United States.

As a first time participant and record-setting player within the space, Pisco Porton received a score of 92 and was described as "Excellent and Highly Recommended." Among the 650 total entrants from more than 30 countries around the world, the panel of judges chose a mere 31 Chairman's Trophy recipients, representing the best of the best.  Judges included a who's who of world-class journalists, influencers and mixologists, including USC Chairman Paul Pacult, Cocktail King Dale DeGroff and Cocktail Historian Dave Wondrich. The tastings were conducted over a four-day period, in small panels, until each entrant had been blind tasted by all sixteen judges.

"Pisco Porton was created to introduce the taste of Peru to the U.S. and ultimately change the way cocktail and spirit enthusiasts view ultra-premium white spirits," says the world's preeminent pisco authority and connoisseur, Pisco Porton Master Distiller Johnny Schuler. "There are so many events, competitions, and judging programs out there, however, this is an incredibly humbling acknowledgment from some of the most influential personalities in the world."

Hugely successful with consumers, critics, mixologists and retailers, Pisco Porton has moved rapidly from startup to leader of the pisco category. With an initial presence in Houston, Los Angeles and San Francisco, the brand has expanded to twenty-seven markets in less than a year, a commendable feat for any new brand let alone a budding category.

"The support of industry experts including the mixology community, retailers and our distributor partners has been key to our success here in the U.S.," says Director of Marketing Mike Gilbert. "Pisco Porton will only continue to move forward, impressing even the most discerning palates."
