The work began when Oakley tasked Piston with launching the Shaun White Gold Series Collection at Sunglass Hut stores. Piston was challenged to educate the chain's sales associates about the product and spur sales. In response, Piston created "Be the Shaun," an online photo contest with, as they say, a Double McTwist. Built in Drupal 7 with custom and community contributed modules, the application challenged participants to do their best impressions of the Flying Tomato and "out-Shaun" co-workers. Associates were awarded points for social shares and votes from friends and visitors, bonuses were given for cramming tutorial and making sales too—and a live leader board tracked progress. During the promotion period, more than 79,000 pairs of sunglasses were sold resulting in nearly $8MM in revenue.
