Pleyworld's First Crowdsourced LEGO Design Becomes Available for the Masses
Within 11 weeks after Pleyworld's launch, Hippie Dirigible is the first design to reach 5,000 votes and become available for rental on Pley.com.
SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Just 11 weeks after launch, Pleyworld has fulfilled its purpose as a LEGO fan crowdsourcing website that enables designers to create, share, and distribute their designs.
On April 24, 2015, Hippie Dirigible became the first design to cross the finish line. The colorful air balloon was submitted by Russian designers Dmitry and Anna Selivanov. It took 82 days to gather 5,000 votes from LEGO fans worldwide.
Upon reaching 5,000 votes, the design was reversed engineered by Pley's Master Builders to create a detailed instruction manual. The Master Builders also created a list of 475 bricks to build the design. This list was then inputted into Pley's LEGO assembly machines to generate hundreds of Hippie Dirigible sets that are now currently available for rental on Pley.com to over 75,000 Pley users.
The 5,000 fans who voted for Hippie Dirigible on Pleyworld.com were invited to be the first to enjoy the set by renting it from Pley.com.
"The launch of the first design from PleyWorld demonstrates that if you empower the people, amazing innovations can come to life," said Ranan Lachman, Pley CEO. "Pleyworld is democratizing creativity and empowering LEGO designers and builders across the world. We are changing the way toys are being created-now, thousands of fans can build a set that was previously available to a single builder. I encourage everyone to upload their creation, be it a superhero, fantasy vehicle, or architectural construction; and see their creation be appreciated by others."
Submitting a design to Pleyworld requires only a photo of the creation. To see designs currently available for voting, visit http://www.pleyworld.com.
