Pluralsight One Commits $10 million to Support K-12 Computer Science

Company Joins Internet Association Members and Other Businesses, Individuals Who Are Committing More Than $300 Million toward K-12 Computer Science Education Programs

SILICON SLOPES, Utah, Sept. 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Pluralsight, the enterprise technology learning platform, today announced through its newly formed Pluralsight One social impact initiative, a $10 million commitment over the next five years to support K-12 computer science education in the United States. Pluralsight One's commitment is part of today's announcement by the Internet Association to provide more than $300 million in support of K-12 computer science programs.

This initiative is designed to expand opportunities in computer science and work toward a future where every child has the chance to learn these important skills. According to Code.org, there are more than 500,000 open computing jobs in sectors as diverse as agriculture and banking today, but only 50,000 computer science graduates each year. Also according to Code.org, less than half of schools in the U.S. offer computer science courses, yet 90 percent of parents want them in their schools.

Pluralsight announced Pluralsight One on September 21, 2017. As one of its first steps to developing its social impact program, Pluralsight One is conducting a significant needs assessment of the nonprofit sector using Directed Discovery, the product development framework pioneered by Pluralsight's Chief Experience Officer, Nate Walkingshaw.

The data and insight gathered throughout the Directed Discovery process will empower Pluralsight One to better design a robust offering in response to the complex needs of the social sector. Pluralsight One plans to work closely with organizations, including Code.org, International Rescue Committee, NetHope, Samasource, STEM Action Center, TechSoup, and other global nonprofits to co-create programs that will have high impact and deep relevance.
