Pogoplug Takes the Personal Cloud to New Heights
New Software and Devices Give Instant Access to Personal Content
NEW YORK, April 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- San Francisco-based Cloud Engines™, maker of Pogoplug®, today unveiled its next-generation personal cloud solutions, making cloud storage safe and affordable for everyone. At a showcase in New York the company introduced new software and hardware products that give users instant access to all of their personal content from any connected device, anywhere— without fees or storage limits.
In 2011 smartphones and tablets are poised to outnumber PCs, but the limited storage capacity of these devices prevent users from being able to carry all their content with them. Analysts predict that by 2013 the average household will contain four terabytes of personal content.
"As our digital lives become increasingly mobile, the promise of ubiquitous cloud storage makes it possible to connect to our content on the go," said Daniel Putterman, President and CEO of Cloud Engines. "Current cloud storage offerings allow people to store only a limited amount of their digital content and are encumbered with recurring fees and rigid terms of service. Pogoplug gives consumers the freedom and control to create their own personal cloud, hosted in the safety of their home, without fees or limits."
Pogoplug For The People
The award-winning Pogoplug product line now includes two software titles and two always-on physical devices.
New Pogoplug software turns any PC into a personal cloud that can be safely and securely accessed and shared from anywhere on the Internet. The software comes in two flavors: a completely free version and the Premium version (one-time cost of $29), which adds instant streaming of multimedia to any mobile device.
The Pogoplug hardware lineup now includes an updated version of the award-winning Pogoplug device ($99), as well as the highly anticipated Pogoplug Video ($199). The new Pogoplugs offer a redesigned Web UI that makes accessing and organizing content even easier. The new versions also incorporate improved social and sharing options that let users control the distribution of their content and media. Pogoplug Video adds enhanced video capabilities that enable users to stream video instantly to their computer or mobile devices in high resolution without converting or uploading files.
All software and hardware products are powered by a free lifetime subscription to the Pogoplug service. The key to Pogoplug's seamless access and sharing functions, the Pogoplug service adds important security and privacy functions by managing and monitoring connectivity between users and storage in the home. In addition, the service automates product setup, and unlike other remote access solutions, does not require changes to home network or firewall settings. Today the Pogoplug service manages over 40 petabytes of consumer storage in homes across the world — without auditing or viewing end-user content.
Every Pogoplug comes with free mobile applications for popular smartphones, giving users instant access to all their photos, music, videos and other files from one convenient user interface. Pogoplug also released a new iPhone® app this month, rebuilt from the ground up to ensure a great user experience.
Pogoplug Free Software is available for download from Pogoplug’s website, www.pogoplug.com. Pogoplug Premium Software is available at Best Buy and online at www.pogoplug.com.
