Police Privacy Organization Calls For Whitepages.com And Information Companies To Honor Law Enforcement Information Removals

The Public Safety Assistance Foundation, which operates as www.privacyforcops.org, says data brokers, specifically Whitepages.com, are ignoring right to privacy laws and putting the lives of law enforcement officers, public officials, and their families at risk

LOS ANGELES, July 25, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Public Safety Assistance Foundation ("PSAF"), a California Non-Profit 501(c)(3), operating under the domain www.privacyforcops.org, continues to document written proof that data broker companies are not processing information removal requests of consumers and in particular those of law enforcement officers and other public officials, and are putting their lives and their families lives in jeopardy.

PSAF professionally manages privacy opt-out request kits, which demand data brokers and online companies such as www.whitepages.com, www.zabasearch.com, and www.intellius.com to remove personal and private information of law enforcement officers and government officials and their families from their database systems.

PSAF has found that even though databases have removal guidelines, they either ignore requests or place information back into their public databases weeks and months later.  In July of 2012, www.privacyforcops.org began offering its services in the State of Idaho under Senate Bill No. 1378 and in the State of Colorado under House Bill 09-1316, which offer the same protection to law enforcement officers and public officials as the California Government Code 6254.21.  

PSAF has documented countless instances where data brokers and online companies ignored written requests on behalf of police officers, prosecutors, judges, and other public officials.  Additionally the names, addresses, telephone numbers and family members are constantly reappearing in public domains.  This increases the risks of violence for officers and their families.  With a growing clientele, www.privacyforcops.org is positioned to be a strong advocate for the law enforcement industry.  PSAF is committed to making the law enforcement and legislative industry aware of those companies who are violating privacy laws.
