popchips™ and SPIN team up to support local bands with pop up concerts in new york, los angeles, san francisco, chicago and seattle

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 30, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- popchips inc., the all-natural popped snack company, reverbnation and SPIN, the premier resource for music discovery, are giving emerging local bands the opportunity to win a pop up live gig for their fans, and the chance to perform at one of SPIN's hotly anticipated events during austin's spring music festival.

popchips has already hand selected 250 bands from new york, los angeles, san francisco, chicago and seattle from the thousands of reverbnation members that applied to be a part of pop up live, a fan driven competition designed to expose new music. pop up live features an exclusive track from each artist, available for streaming and download on popchips' facebook page (www.facebook.com/popchips). every download registers a vote for the band. on september 12, the four bands with the most downloads from each city will advance to the semi-finals. each semi-finalist will win a $500 cash prize and a "pop up live kit" to help them create their own unique pop up live concert.

bands are challenged to put on the most entertaining and memorable concert possible and to capture the essence of their pop up live gig in a short video. each video will be judged by a panel of music experts including david marchese, senior editor of SPIN, tom windish of the windish agency, select top local music bloggers, and jesse "the devil" hughes of eagles of death metal.

on october 31, popchips will announce the five finalists, one from each city, who will receive a $1,000 cash prize and an invitation to advance to the final round, where fans will be invited to vote for the grand prize winner on popchips' facebook page (www.facebook.com/popchips).  the grand prize winner, who will perform at a SPIN event during the austin music festival in spring 2012, will be announced on november 16.
