Portland Housing Center and National NeighborWorks® Association Host West Coast Launch of Home Matters™ Movement
Citi Community Development Announces Winners of National Home Matters™ Contest
PORTLAND, Ore., May 6, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Portland Housing Center and National NeighborWorks® Association today jointly host the West Coast launch of the Home Matters™ Movement, which aims to unite America around the essential role that Home plays as the bedrock for thriving lives, families, and a stronger nation. The event takes place in conjunction with the national training institute of NeighborWorks America, which has brought to Portland 2,000 representatives of housing and community development organizations from across the country.
The Home Matters Movement (www.HomeMattersAmerica.com) was launched in March in Washington, DC where leaders of more than 200 housing and community development organizations gathered with Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Shaun Donovan and a bipartisan group of Members of Congress. Those Members represented a broad political spectrum, underscoring that Home Matters no matter what your political beliefs.
Home Matters is spearheaded by a coast-to-coast coalition of leaders, community groups, nonprofit organizations, companies, and the public at large. That coalition includes regional and local organizations providing housing and related services as well as national entities like National NeighborWorks Association, Citi Community Development, and Wells Fargo. As it grows, Home Matters will go beyond housing and illuminate the connections between stable housing and other important facets of American life such as individual success, education, health, public safety, and a strong economy.
In connection with the Portland event, Citi Community Development announced the winners of a national contest, which it has funded and which offers three $5,000 marketing and communications prizes to organizations that demonstrate how quickly and widely they have spread the Home Matters™ message and helped build the movement. The winners are:
- Neighborhood Housing Services of Los Angeles County,
- NeighborWorks Montana/NeighborWorks Great Falls,
- Community Development Corporation of Long Island.
