PORTS Coffee Makes Jonathan Adler's Dream Come True with Namesake Beverage
Premium Espresso and Tea Bar Creates Original Iced Tea for the Design Minded
NEW YORK, Aug. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- PORTS Coffee and Tea introduces an original iced tea recipe dubbed "The Jonathan Adler" in honor of the famous New Yorker. The Chelsea-based espresso & tea bar is the first and only place in the world to offer the namesake beverage.
The drink is an organic blend of Indian black and African rooibos teas infused with toasted coconut, chocolate and vanilla topped with a splash of soymilk served over ice. Without any sugar or additives, soymilk is the only source of calories in the drink and customers can dictate how big of a splash they prefer. "It's the perfect guilt-free refreshment after my workout at David Barton's," says Mike R., a regular customer.
"My goal in life is to have a beverage named after me, sort of like an Arnold Palmer," Adler confessed to New York Magazine in a June 2011 interview. The designer went on to explain his affinity for tea with milk and his desire for an iced version of the famously British staple.
The formula resonated with PORTS Founder Nina Adams on a personal level who says, "The iced tea with milk was a no-brainer for the cafe. Growing up in Moscow, I drank tea with milk everyday."
PORTS Coffee and Tea opened its doors in May of this year serving locally roasted Stumptown Coffee and an extensive menu of hot and iced teas. The iced tea referred to as "The Jonathan Adler" has become an instant hit with the neighborhood selling out daily since its debut over NYC Pride weekend. The beverage retails for $3 for a regular size (16oz) and $4 for a large (20oz.) The cafe will serve complimentary samples of the beverage to participants of PORTS On The Run, a new running club hosted by PORTS, The Daily Hookup and RunningCaffeinated.com on Thursday nights.
