Possibly Fastest Masters Fields Ever Compete at U.S. Olympic Trials 5:40 & 5:50 PM Sat. June 30 -- M200 and W400 Hayward Field at Univ. of Oregon, Eugene
EUGENE, Ore., June 23, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Proving that fitness is a lifetime affair, some of the nation's best masters will take part in the U.S. Olympic Trials, Saturday, June 30, in 200 meter men's and 400 meter women's masters exhibition. The men's masters 200 M will be at 5:40 PM and the women's 400 M at 5:50, Pacific Time, at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. The events were organized by USATF Masters Invitational Program Director Mark Cleary, with the support of USOC and USATF. Cleary stated that he is "grateful to the Olympic Trials organizers for including masters events to emphasize the importance of lifetime training and competition and the mission of USATF masters track." In addition, Cleary said, "These two events could be the two fastest masters fields ever run on America soil."
Invited male competitors in the 200 meters are Allen Woodward, 43, from Miramar, FL, with a qualifying time of 22.35; Eric Prince, 43, Berea, OH, with Southwest Sprinters Track Club, 22.64; Khalid Mulazim, 46, Cleveland, OH, also with Southwest Sprinters Tack Club, 400 meter world record holder for the men's 45-49 age division last year set at the 2011 USA Masters Championships in Ohio, 22.69; Jeffery Mack, 40, Charlotte, NC, 22.85; Michael Sullivan, 51, Gilbert, AZ, current world champion for 50-54 age division, 22.88; Johnny Speed, 48, Long Beach, CA, Pacific Coast Track Club, 23.35; Lonnie Hooker, 49, Falls Church, VA, 23.49; David Jones, 51, Miami, FL, Florida Athletic Club, 23.50. Provisional entries: Diedrick Joseph, 38, Long Beach, CA, Elite Health Track Club, 23.76; Duane Gosa, 46, Team Ohio Track Club, Inc., 23.94; and Mohamed Ali, 42, TNT International Racing Club, 23.94.
