Power Engineering and RenewableEnergyWorld.com name Projects of the Year Awards finalists

TULSA, Okla. and NASHUA, N.H., Oct. 3, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The editors of Power Engineering magazine, RenewableEnergyWorld.com and PennWell Corp. have announced 15 finalists for the annual Projects of the Year Awards program.

The finalists were selected from eight major categories: Coal, Gas, Nuclear, Solar, Wind, Bioenergy, Hydro and Geothermal.

The Best Coal Project finalists are the Virginia City Hybrid Energy Center owned by Dominion Virginia Power in Virginia and the Dry Fork Station in Wyoming, owned by Basin Electric Power Co-Op.

The 2012 Best Gas Project finalists are Korea Southern Power Co. Ltd.'s Shinincheon Capacity Upgrade and Tennessee Valley Authority's John Sevier Combined-Cycle Project.

The winner for the Best Nuclear Project is Entergy's Nuclear Fleet Welding Program Standardization.

The Best Solar Project finalists are the Solarpark Meuro project in Germany and the Alamosa Solar Project in Colorado, owned by Cogentrix.

The finalists for Best Wind Project are the Spring Valley Wind Project in Nevada, owned by Pattern Energy, and the Settler's Trail Wind Farm owned by E-ON Climate and Renewables in Illinois.

The Best Bioenergy Project finalists are the Nacogdoches Generating Facility in Texas, which is owned by Southern Co., and the University of Missouri Bubbling Fluidized Bed Boiler Project.

The Best Hydro Project finalists are the Chacayes Hydroelectric Generating Station in Chile, owned by Pacific Hydro, and the Jordan Hydroelectric Project on Corps of Engineers' Dam in North Carolina, which is owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The Best Geothermal Project finalists are the John L. Featherstone Geothermal Plant, owned by Energy Source in California, and PMU Dominica on the island of Dominica.
