PPG Industries Recognized by CIO Magazine as One of the 2011 CIO 100 Award Honorees
Leading global coatings company honored for inventive IT application
PITTSBURGH, July 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- PPG Industries (NYSE: PPG) announced today that it has been selected by CIO Magazine as a 2011 CIO 100 Award recipient for innovative application and use of information technology. The award recognizes technology created by the PPG Architectural Finishes business to enable consumers to digitally select a paint color for their home.
PPG was awarded the honor for its ColorClix digital platform from the Olympic paint brand. ColorClix was created to aid the consumer in digitally selecting color, defining their project needs and purchasing paint. ColorClix, the paint industry's first fully integrated and multi-platform enabled, digital paint purchase process, allows consumers to easily convert their photographs, videos or any other digital inspirations to favorite paint colors. The technology then applies users' colors to sample room settings to help showcase looks and themes.
"The CIO 100 Award signifies PPG Industries' commitment to delivering innovative digital solutions that complement our leading architectural paint brands," said Jeff Lipniskis, director of information technology for PPG Architectural Finishes. "Consumers continue to rely on the online space for design inspiration and decorating advice, so ColorClix was created to eliminate the stress of the color selection process by serving as an online portal where homeowners can easily go from concept to purchase."
To help consumers build confidence in their color selections, ColorClix aggregates color popularity information and the ability to visualize colors in a room setting. The ColorClix program offers an integrated process to view colors, save projects and order paint samples online as well as a list of retail locations offering Olympic paint for in-store pickup. The ColorClix mobile app is available in the Apple App Store or Android Market. The personal computer version of ColorClix is available to download from www.olympic.com for both the Windows and Mac operating systems.
"This year's CIO 100 Awards draws well-deserved attention to companies that are not only innovating with IT but creating genuine business value as well," said Maryfran Johnson, Editor in Chief of CIO Magazine & Events. "These winning companies and their IT organizations are an inspiration to businesses everywhere."
PPG will receive its CIO 100 Award at the CIO 100 Symposium and Awards Ceremony in August in Colorado Springs.

About the CIO 100 Award
The recipients of this year's CIO 100 award were selected through a three-step process. First, companies filled out an online application form detailing their innovative IT and business initiatives. Next, a team of judges reviewed the applications in depth, looking for unique practices and substantial results. Finally, CIO editors reviewed the judges' recommendations and voted on the final 100. Complete coverage of the 2011 CIO 100 awards will be online at www.cio.com on August 1, 2011 and in the August 1 issue of CIO magazine.
