President of Oral Roberts Ministries Conducts Crusade in Kenya
Debate about new constitution continues
NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Oral Roberts Ministries today announced that its president, Richard Roberts, is in Kenya urging religious leaders to act on behalf of Kenya's citizens in the debate that will result in a new constitution.
Through the pastor's leadership conference and healing crusade in the East African nation, Roberts is encouraging more than 4,000 bishops and pastors to reach out to government leaders to form a constitution that is framed in the principles of life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness and freedom of religion.
Speaking on all of Kenya's television networks, Roberts tells Kenyans he believes "Kenya is the prize of Africa."
Considered by some in Kenya as a spiritual diplomat, Roberts asked government leaders to realize Kenya has the opportunity to start over.
Roberts is in Kenya during a historic time in the East African country's development. With a current debate over the drafting of a new constitution, Roberts urged Kenyans to forgive each other for the violence from elections two years ago.
"Forgiveness needs to happen now," Roberts said. "It's time for Kenya to come together as one nation under God."
Roberts' message of hope has been embraced by Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka and Prime Minister Ralia Odinga. At the request of each leader, Roberts prayed over them.
Roberts has also been helping meet the needs of the poor in Nairobi through the ministry's humanitarian arm, Hunger Needs a Voice. Led by Roberts' daughter, Jordan, the charitable organization has delivered 2 million meals to people living in the slums. Medical teams have also provided medical examinations and medicine to nearly 4,000 adults and children free of charge. Oral Roberts Ministries also donated thousands of dollars in medical supplies for the people living in the slums.
"These kids are Kenya's future," Jordan Roberts said. "They will become their leaders," says Jordan.
Richard Roberts' journey is part of the fulfillment of his father's vision to bring Kenya to the knowledge of Jesus Christ. In 1968, Oral Roberts conducted the largest crusade of his ministry in Nairboi at a time when Jomo Kenyatta was leading the country into independence from the United Kingdom.
"There were many miracles, signs, and wonders, and souls were saved," recalled Rev. Wilson Mamboleo, founder of Prayer of Intercession Ministries in Kenya. "The work of Oral Roberts was not finished in 1968, and now the son has come. This will mean a divine visitation is going to be felt throughout the country."
