Press statement - Encouraging sustainable mobility for Canada's trucking industry: Michelin Canada sees progress in load parity legislation uptake

LAVAL, QC, June 15, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - Michelin North America (Canada) Inc, is pleased to see the progress in sustainable mobility for Canada's trucking industry, now that three provinces have load parity legislation in place with the recent move by Manitoba to adopt new regulations. Facilitating load parity, which allows fuel-efficient wide base single heavy truck tires to operate at the same weight limits (and payload) as conventional dual tires, has many benefits, including increased hauling and payload capacity and decreased fuel consumption and green-house gas emissions.

Wide base single tires have been available in North America since 2000. Load parity was implemented in 2006 in Quebec and in 2008 in Ontario. In Manitoba, the 2015 revised regulations apply to trucks travelling provincial highways that meet national load ratings, known as Roads and Transportation Association of Canada (RTAC) highways.  In all instances, the provincial regulatory changes were implemented after extensive consultations with the trucking industry.
