Prince George's County Contractors And Business Association Releases New Ad: "Questions"

CAMP SPRINGS, Md., July 16, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Prince George's County Contractors Association today announced a new television ad running in Maryland aimed at slowing down the "rush to judgment" by the state legislature and Governor to promote a major casino to be built at National Harbor.

The ad asks two main questions:

1. Why would the legislature want to grant tax breaks to an out-of-town casino operator at the same time it is raising taxes on middle-income Marylanders?
2. Why would the Maryland state government want to do business with a company which, having had a choice of severing its ties to organized crime or giving up its gaming license in New Jersey, chose to leave Atlantic City?

Joseph Gaskins, Chairman of the Contractors Association said "the Governor and senior members of the state legislature have created an artificial rush-to-judgment" by promoting a special session of the legislature this summer.

"We know what will happen," Gaskins said.  "These guys will come in, make sweetheart deals with contractors they've worked with in other states and leave Maryland workers sitting on the sidelines."

"We also know that this particular group is likely to skim all the profits it can in the early stages of an operating casino, then sell out to who-knows-what kind of group leaving Maryland to pick up the pieces, and pay all the costs."

Gaskins said "If this is a good idea, let's play it out in the normal fashion, during the regular legislative term so all Marylanders have the opportunity to examine the very important issues involved.
